Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik's tenure has been extended by one month in view of Delhi Assembly elections. This election has been extended by the Election Commission. Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs had written a letter related to extending the tenure of the Election Commission. Government sources had told that the Home Ministry had asked the Election Commission to extend the tenure of Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik by one month. Let us tell you that Patnaik was retiring on Friday.

However, it was already being speculated that Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik would get an extension of service till the end of the election. Patnaik's term expires on 31 January. Since the code of conduct will be in force at that time, the possibility of a police chief being replaced without the permission of the Election Commission is slim. This was the reason that the government wrote a letter to the Election Commission in this regard. Explain that in such a situation, one to three months service extension can be given to the Commissioner of Police.

Assembly elections are due in Delhi next month. Votes will be cast on all the 70 seats in Delhi on February 8. Its results will come on 11 February.

Amulya Patnaik became the new Police Commissioner of Delhi in January 2017. He is a 1985 batch police officer.
