26 New Words Included Oxford Dictionary

In the latest edition of the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, Indian English words have found their place like this every year. This time it has included 26 new Indian English words such as Aadhaar, Chawl, Dabba, Strike and Shaadi. This 10th edition of the dictionary contains 384 Indian English words. 1,000 new words like chatboat, fake news and microplastic have also been added to this version, launched on Friday.

Oxford University Press (OUP) stated that the dictionary focused on language change and its development. Also it has ensured that the language used in the new version and the examples given are relevant and updated over time. The new version will be available with interactive online support via the Oxford Learner's Dictionaries website and app.

The Oxford Learner's Dictionaries website also includes audio video tutorials, video walkthroughs, self study activities and advanced features such as advanced iWriter and ieakeaker tools. Fatima Dada, managing director (education division), Oxford University Press (OUP), said that 26 new Indian English words have been included in the edition, with 22 words in the printed dictionary while the other four have been included in the digital edition.
