Swiggy Introduces Moonlighting Policy That Allows Workers To Take Up External Projects

Shivam Verma

Swiggy, a food ordering, and delivery platform announced an industry-first Moonlighting policy on Wednesday, under which staff can take on external projects for pro-bono or pecuniary consideration based on corporate permissions.

"This might include activities outside of office hours or on weekends that has no influence on their productivity on the full-time work or has any conflict of interest with Swiggy's business," according to a corporate announcement.

The moonlighting policy permits employees to work second jobs

Under certain situations, the moonlighting policy permits employees to work second jobs outside of their primary job's typical business hours.

Extending on the reasoning for the decision, the Bengaluru-based organization stated that during the countywide lockdowns, a substantial section of the working people discovered new interests and maybe even an activity that generates an additional source of revenue.

"Whether it's volunteering with an NGO, working as a dancing instructor, or creating social media content, Swiggy fully believes that working on such initiatives outside of one's full-time employment can greatly contribute to an individual's professional and personal growth," it said.

Employees must follow the policy when working on Moonlighting initiatives

The policy establishes criteria that employees must follow when working on Moonlighting initiatives.

Projects that offer a higher risk of conflict of interest or interference with Swiggy staff' tasks are subject to review. Bundl Technologies' full-time workers, including subsidiaries, affiliates, associates, and group businesses, are covered by the policy.

"Our objective with the Moonlighting Policy is to enable individuals to follow their passions without being constrained by their full-time job with us." "This is another milestone in our goal to becoming a world-class 'people-first' organization," Swiggy Girish Menon, Head of Human Resources, stated.
