In 2009, Ratan Tata launched the "Nano" car of Tata Motors. Earlier in 2008, the car was showcased at Auto Expo. Ratan Tata wanted to fulfill the dream of the car of the common people through this car. This is the reason why Ratan Tata called it 'people's car' at the time of launching. The initial price of this car was around 1 lakh rupees.

This Lakhtakiya car was removed from the market with great noise. Tata Motors has been consistently saying that the final decision has not yet been made about the future of the Nano. However, the company has admitted that the Nano will not meet the new safety regulations and BS-6 emission norms in the current form.
