Android 14 Maybe Titled 'Upside Down Cake' Internally

Shivam Verma

Android 13 is slated to be Google's next major update for smartphones throughout the world, with the first beta for Pixel devices arriving any day now. However, a successor to Android 13 is also in the works, and according to a fresh source, we now have an internal codename for 'Android U.'

According to XDA Developers, some of the first contributions pointing to Android 14 have appeared on the Android Gerrit. These contributions allude to the Android 13 successor, codenamed 'Upside Down Cake.'

As you may know, every Android version has unique codenames that are alphabetically organized and themed by desserts.

While current Android versions have kept to merely the number (Android 10, Android 11, etc.), the dessert names that Google grants to all Android versions still persist as internal codenames.

What Exactly is an Upside Down Cake?

An Upside Down Cake, as the name implies, is a cake that is cooked with the toppings on the bottom and the cake on top. While it isn't as well-known as Tiramisu or Ice Cream Sandwich, we can't blame Google because sweets beginning with the letter 'U' might be difficult to come across.
