Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has made a big announcement amid the hijab controversy that has arisen from Karnataka. During the interaction with the media, he said that the Uniform Civil Code will be implemented after the formation of the new BJP government in Uttarakhand. He said that a committee of jurists, retired people, intellectuals of the society and others would be constituted. This committee will prepare the draft of the Uniform Civil Code for the state of Uttarakhand.

During a conversation with news agency ANI, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the upcoming new BJP government will constitute a committee of jurists, retired people, intellectuals of the society and other people soon after its swearing-in, which will set up a uniform civil society for the state of Uttarakhand.

Uniform Civil Code would be an effective step towards fulfilling the dreams

He said that the scope of this Uniform Civil Code will be uniform law on matters like marriage, divorce, land property and succession for all citizens, irrespective of the religion they believe. He said that the Uniform Civil Code would also be an effective step towards fulfilling the dreams of the framers of the Constitution.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami further said that to protect the cultural-spiritual heritage of Uttarakhand, the BJP government will constitute a committee soon after its swearing-in, which will make a common law for all citizens. Implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand at the earliest will strengthen equal rights for all citizens of the state.

Politics boils over CM's announcement

On the other hand, after this announcement by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the politics of Uttarakhand has come to a boil. Congress spokesperson Garima Dasauni said that BJP is issuing such statements to avoid its defeat. For the last five years, the BJP has not done anything for development and is now making such statements to woo the voters.
