During the 2002 riots in Gujarat, after the Godhra train incident on 27th February, a mob of 5000 Hindus went wild and started to attack the Muslim community in Gujarat. This mob was part of the Bajrang Dal, a wing of the Vishva Hindu Parishad.

The massacre took place during the Bandh (Strike) in Gujarat after the Godhra incident.

This incident continued for 10 hours and during this, the mob looted, stabbed, sexually assaulted, gang-raped, and burnt people individually and in groups.

After the conflict, a curfew was imposed in the state and army troops were called in to contain further violence.

Response of public in Ahmedabad

This decision of the BJP has triggered the supporters of Balram Thawani, the outgoing MLA of Kuber Nagar. People started to revolt against this decision by closing shops and establishments in the city.

Talking about Payal, she is a doctor in a civil hospital who lives in Kuber Nagar and is married to a man outside the Sindhi community. Her mother, Reshma Kukrani, is a BJP councillor for the Kuber Nagar ward.
