UBER: Cab Fares Hiked by 12% in Delhi-NCR

The common man is suffering due to the increasing prices of Petrol-Diesel and CNG in the country because its direct effect is also being seen on the taxi business. Now Uber (UBER), a taxi service company through the app, has announced a 12 per cent increase in fares in Delhi-NCR.

Nitish Bhushan, Director of Central Operations, Uber India and South Asia, said, “We listened to the drivers' opinions and realised that the recent increase in fuel prices is causing them troubles. Uber has increased fares by about 12 per cent in Delhi-NCR to help them amid the hike in fuel prices. Will continue to monitor prices of fuel in the coming weeks and take our next steps accordingly”. It is being told that the company has taken this step due to the increasing displeasure of the drivers. In many places the price has been increased by 15 per cent.

Auto, taxi and cab drivers in Delhi on Monday demonstrated at the Delhi Secretariat demanding subsidy on CNG. The protesters have warned the government that they will go on an indefinite strike from April 18 if their demands are not met. The protest was organized under the banner of the Delhi Auto Rickshaw Association. However, despite the protest, many autos, taxis and cabs were seen plying on the streets of Delhi. Delhi Auto Rickshaw Association's general secretary Rajendra Soni said that the price of CNG was 'increased'. The 'unprecedented' increase has broken the back of auto and cab drivers.

Delhi Auto Rickshaw Association's general secretary Rajendra Soni said, “CNG is now selling at over Rs 69.11 per kg in Delhi which is unprecedented. We (Central and State) are demanding from the government to provide subsidies on CNG at the rate of Rs 35 per kg so that we can subsist. If our demands are not met, all drivers will go on an indefinite strike from April 18."
