In a money laundering case, the Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Satyendar Jain, a former Delhi minister, and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), for six weeks on medical grounds.

The order was issued by the Supreme Court's vacation bench, which included Justices JK Maheshwari and PS Narasimha, according to news agency ANI.

The Supreme Court has ordered Jain not to leave Delhi without permission and to refrain from making any public pronouncements. 

As a condition of his bail, Satyendar Jain was prohibited from contacting or exerting influence over any of the witnesses involved in the money laundering case.

Court directed Jain to not talk to media

A panel of Justices JK Maheshwari and PS Narasimha granted Jain, 58, permission to seek treatment at any hospital of his choosing and ordered him to furnish medical reports by July 10. 

It also ordered Jain not to speak to the media throughout his interim bail period, which expires on July 11.

Representing Jain, senior counsel Abhishek Singhvi stated that the former minister has experienced a weight loss of 35 kg and is currently dealing with a spinal condition. 

Taking note of this, the Supreme Court made an observation while granting interim bail, expressing their inclination to consider his medical grounds and allowing him a period of six weeks to seek treatment at private hospitals of his preference.

Jain has been released on interim bail

He has been granted interim bail on medical grounds, subject to the trial court's provision that he not influence or meet with any witnesses."

Jain was transferred to the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Hospital on Thursday after collapsing in Tihar jail due to dizziness around 6 a.m.

Following this, he was referred to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital and admitted to its ICU unit due to breathing difficulties. On Monday, Jain was also transported to Safdarjung Hospital because he was feeling ill. 

Jain has been in custody since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in May of the previous year, relating to a money laundering case. 

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his well wishes for Jain's quick recovery, hoping that he will find the strength to overcome these challenging circumstances.
