Bihar Liquor Tragedy: Petition Filed in SC Requesting SIT Probe

Bihar Liquor Tragedy: The matter of deaths due to spurious liquor in Bihar has reached the Supreme Court. A petition requesting a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the spurious liquor tragedy has been filed in court.

So far 65 people have lost their lives due to spurious liquor. The petition has been mentioned for urgent listing before a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha.

However, Chief Justice of India Justice DY Chandrachud refused to list the matter and said that the petitioners would have to go through due process for listing the matter.

The two-week winter vacation of the apex court will begin from Friday. After this, the work of the court will start on January 2. The matter will have to be mentioned again after the winter break.

Notice of Human Rights Commission to Bihar government

At the same time, the National Human Rights Commission has sent a notice to the Bihar government.

In the notice, the commission has asked the state chief secretary and the director general of police to give detailed details of the status of the FIR registered by the police, medical treatment of the hospitalized victims and compensation to the victim's families in the entire episode.

In its notice, the commission has written that we expect an early response from the state government officials.

Along with this, the commission has also sought information about the action taken against the responsible officers in this matter.
