Vivian Richards, De Villiers and Jayasuriya Changed Cricket Completely: Inzamam-ul-Haq

Akash Singh

Former Pakistani captain Inzamam-ul-Haq praised former West Indies cricketer Sir Vivian Richards, Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya, and South Africa's AB de Villiers. Inzamam said that Richards, Jayasuriya and de Villiers are players who have changed cricket. Inzamam retired from international cricket in 2007 after the second Test match against South Africa. Inzamam said, "Many years ago Richards started work to change the game of cricket. At that time, batsmen used to play fast bowlers on the back foot, but they showed everyone how fast bowlers can also be played on the front foot. He told people that fast bowlers can also be attacked."

Inzamam said about Jayasuriya, "Jayasuriya brought second change. He decided to attack the fast bowlers in the first 15 overs of the inning. Those who played air shots before he arrived were not usually considered batsmen, but he changed the definition by playing shots from above the infield in the first 15 overs."

The former Pakistani captain took on De Villiers and said, "The third player who has changed the game of cricket is AB De Villiers. The earlier batsmen used to play shots directly off the bat, but de Villiers started applying paddle sweeps and reverse sweeps."
