Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is confident of hosting its first T20 league between August 8 and 22. On the other hand, the Sri Lankan government has extended the reopening date of its international airport till August 1 due to the Covid-19 epidemic. SLC has got the green signal from the Sports Ministry to organize the tournament, but the future of Lanka Premier League (LPL) will depend on the government's decision to re-open the country's borders.

Five teams are expected to participate in the franchise-based Sri Lanka Premier League.
The duration of this tournament will depend on the tour of India. Both boards are considering options for organizing it in August. "We are currently thinking of organizing 23 matches in the tournament, but if India gets ready to play, then maybe we can organize only 13 matches," said de Silva.
