PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal Enter Second Round in Singapore Open

Ace Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal advanced to the second round of the Singapore Open Badminton Tournament with straight-game wins over their respective rivals.

India's star shuttler PV Sindhu entered in the second round of the Singapore Open badminton tournament by defeating Alessandra Mainaky of Indonesia in straight games on Wednesday.

The Rio Olympics silver-medalist will next play Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark. Fourth-seeded Indu defeated Indonesia's opponent 21-9, 21-7 in a one-sided match of the women's singles in just 27 minutes. The silver medalist of Rio Olympics, Sindhu will face Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt in the next round.

However, it was curtains for India in the opening round of the men's doubles competition. The pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy lost to qualifiers Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Kean Hean Loh of Singapore 13-21, 17-21

The Indian challenge ended in the first round of the men's doubles. Saurabh Sharma and Anushka Parekh got out in the first round of Mixed Doubles. They had to face defeat by the Thai pair of by 12-21, 12-21.

Sindhu made her name easily with the first game 21-9. After this, he did not have any problem in winning the second game and he took the match in 27 minutes to make it to the next round.

However, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy progressed to the mixed doubles second round event after beating Arjun M R and K Maneesha 21-18, 21-7 in an all-Indian contest.

Parupalli Kashyap and Magadha Agre, who arrived in the main round of P. Kashyap and Mugdha made it to the main draw of the men's and women's singles respectively at the Singapore Open Badminton Tournament here on Tuesday. Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 gold medalist Kashyap defeated Yu Igarashi of Japan 15-21, 21-16, 22-20 in the final round of qualification and entered the main draw.
