The question of whether the former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will play in the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in Australia next year is going on from the media to his fans. When asked about this, Sourav Ganguly, Chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), gave a different answer. Since India's defeat against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup semi-final, Dhoni has not played for Team India. Ganguly was asked if wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni would take part in the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia next year. In response, the BCCI president said, "Please ask Dhoni."

Dhoni has not been playing cricket since India's semi-final exit in the ODI World Cup in England in July. He did not tour the West Indies and did not play in the home series against South Africa and Bangladesh after that. When Ganguly was asked by a journalist about Dhoni's chances of playing in the T20 World Cup, his direct answer was, "Please ask Dhoni."

Ganguly was addressing a press conference after the 88th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the board. Recently, when Mahendra Singh Dhoni came to Mumbai for a program, even then there were questions about his return. However, Dhoni cut the question related to his return in between and said that he should not be asked about this till January. Dhoni was asked by the journalist about his return at an event. Dhoni's reply was, "Ask after January".
