Akash Singh

India's top seeded Lakshya defeated his Brazilian opponent 18-21, 21-18, 21-19 in 56 minutes on Sunday night. This is the third title in the last four tournaments of Uttarakhand's 18-year Lakshya. He had previously won the title of Saralorlux Open, Dutch Open and Belgium International. Lakshya made a great comeback here after losing in the second round of the Irish Open.

The Indian started their campaign with a straight game win against Luca Wreiber of Austria and then beat compatriot Kiran George to advance to the quarter-finals. World No. 41 player Lakshya defeated sixth seed Brian Young in straight games and then defeated France's Kristo Popov in the semi-finals. The win would put Lakshya in the top 40 in the BWF rankings and close to direct entry into the Grade 2 top competition. Anand Pawar (2010 and 2012), Arvind Bhat (2004) and Pullela Gopichand (1999) have won Scottish Open titles before the Lakshya.

Lakshya started the match slow but was able to take a 10-8 lead after that. Coelho, however, went 14–10 with six consecutive points after which he won the first game. Lakshya started 7–0 in the second game, but the Brazilian put the score at 17–17. The Indian player, however, managed to equalize the match 1–1 by winning four of the next five points. The third and deciding game also saw a tough competition. Coelho was ahead 11–8 at the time of the break but Lakshya equaled the points and then won the game and the match to clinch the title.
