Williamson has also captained Sunrisers Hyderabad, but due to the rules of 4 foreign players, he did not play much in the 2018 season.

IPL is the 'Biggest Domestic Competition': Williamson

Speaking on the YouTube channel DRS with Ash show with Indian team spinner R Ashwin, Williamson said, "The initial interest was obviously to watch IPL and see how big a league it is, it's the biggest domestic competition, T20 cricket is relatively new, what I saw was an opportunity to gain experience and learn."

Williamson has Played 41 IPL Matches so far:

He has said, "It is an amazing thing for us to see the passion for cricket in India, it is a great competition and a high standard, a lot of other countries have followed suit to start their league." Williamson said that leading the IPL team was different from leading New Zealand's team. Williamson, the Kiwi batsman, has played 41 matches so far in this league, in which he has scored 1302 runs.

Williamson captained the SRH Team in 2018:

Kane Williamson has said, "It is quite different to lead the New Zealand and IPL franchises, initially, I had no idea what I expected, but as I mentioned it is an Indian competition, so you come in quite a different culture." I was trying to keep an open mind, all teams have a lot of experience, it was a pleasant season to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad." Williamson was given the command of the IPL team in 2018 after SRH regular captain David Warner was banned from cricket for a year.
