Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday signed South African leg-spinner and World No.1 T20I bowler Tabraiz Shamsi for the phase II of the IPL as replacement for Australian pacer Andrew Tye. The left-arm leg-spinner has been included as second replacement player for the franchise.
Shamsi, 31, represents the Titans in South Africa's domestic cricket and made his international debut for South Africa in 2017 during the bilateral T20I series against England. However, before that he has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has played 4 matches in the IPL, taking 3 wickets for Royals Challengers Bangalore in the 2016 season.
In the IPL's 2016 season too, Tabrez Shamsi was included as a replacement player. The left-arm leg-spinner has taken 45 wickets in 39 T20 Internationals. At the same time, he has taken 32 wickets in 27 ODIs for his country. He is in excellent form at present and that is why Rajasthan Royals have decided to rope in Tabrez Shammi as a replacement for Andrew Tye. Shamsi also took seven wickets in five match for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred.
Rajasthan Royals have also informed that Andrew Tye will not be available for the rest of the IPL season. To this, Tye said, "It is with great regret that I have to pull out of the remainder of the IPL 2021 with the Rajasthan Royals. It has been a long year for me which has kept me away from home for a lengthy period, and the disappointment of not making it to the World Cup squad has added to the dismay."
