Team India aims to level the series on Sunday after losing the first ODI on Friday. The Indian openers gave the team a solid start. But the middle-order batters couldn't capitalize on that.

After the brilliant opening partnership of 124 runs between Dhawan and Gill, only Shreyas Iyer guided the innings well with Sanju Samson and Washington Sundar. 

Gill and Dhawan played well, and while they were at the crease, the score looked to reach at least the 330-run mark.

But Pant and Suryakumar failed to bat well, which is why the Kiwis successfully restricted the visitors to 306 runs in their quota of fifty overs.

India should play with two Deepaks in the next match

The visitors need to strengthen their middle order and add an extra bowling option. If the men in blue lose the second ODI match tomorrow, they will also lose the series like their past tours of New Zealand.

India should add Deepak Hooda and Deepak Chahar to their playing XI for the must-win encounter. 

Rishabh Pant can be dropped, and Deepak Hooda might be a better inclusion in Pant’s place. The visitors can also replace Arshdeep Singh with Deepak Chahar.

Singh went for plenty in the first ODI. He was an easy target for Williamson and team. 

Chahar is coming from an injury layoff. But he is a quality bowler who can do the job for the team. 

Umran Malik and Shardul Thakur were the only wicket-takers from the last match. Malik had a good day, and he got two wickets in the first ODI, while Thakur did a decent job with the ball.

But Shardul needs to contribute more with the bat. Adding Hooda might help India, as he will be an extra bowling option and add depth to the batting. Hooda even recently picked up a four-wicket haul in a T20I game India won.

Before Latham and Williamson guided the Kiwis to a brilliant seven-wicket victory, the bowlers made a remarkable comeback in the match, especially when the team needed the most.

Ferguson and Southee picked up the wickets of the Indian openers and never allowed anyone batter to settle down. New Zealand won the 1st match mainly because they handled the pressure situations better than Team India.
