India's first-choice all-rounder Hardik Pandya underwent successful surgery in London for an intense Lower-back injury that may constrain him out of activity for a more extended period.

"Surgery was done successfully. Extremely grateful to everyone for your wishes. Will be back in no time! Till then miss me," Hardik posted a message with an image on his Instagram account on Saturday.

Hardik is required to be out of action for five months.

The Baroda all-rounder is the second key part in the Indian after chief speedster Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of the progressing Test series against South Africa because of stress crack in his lower back.

Hardik played the T20I series against South Africa before being ruled out of the Test series in light of the injury. He will miss the T20Is against Bangladesh also.

Hardik first sustained the injury during the Asia Cup in UAE last September. He recouped so as to play in the IPL and the World Cup before the injury resurfaced.

The all-rounder who has played 11 Tests, 54 ODIs and 40 T20Is, will be a necessary part of the Indian group during the following year's World T20 scheduled to be held in Australia.
