Didn’t Mind If I Died While Batting without Helmet: Viv Richards

Akash Singh

Former West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards said he liked to play cricket without a helmet. He was quite comfortable with taking risks. Richards chatted online with former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson on podcast. He told Watson that even if he died while batting without a helmet, there was no sadness. Richards has scored 8540 runs in 121 Tests and 6721 runs in 187 ODIs for the Windies.

Richards said, "The passion for the game was so much that even if I die playing the game I love, it doesn't hurt. I used to watch male and female players from other sports who respected their sport to some extent. I used to see a racer driving a car in Formula-1. What could be more dangerous than this. My dentist gave me a mouthpiece which I used only a few days. Because of this, I could not eat chewing gum, so I never used it again. " Let us tell you that Viv Richards retired in 1991. But there has hardly been any cricketer equivalent to him till now.
