Australia captain Tim Paine finished his 13-year century drought as he hit his second first-class hundred at WACA Ground, Perth on Saturday.

Interestingly, the last time Paine scored a first-class century, presently Australia head coach Justin Langer was opening the innings under the captaincy of Ricky Ponting. Paine was then 21-year-old when he crushed 215 off 409 balls at a similar setting against a similar group.

Batting for Tasmania in his side's first Sheffield Shield match of the period, the Australian captain got to his 100-run mark as he cut Western Australian spinner Ashton Agar for a boundary.

His 209-ball 121, which was bound with 13 fours and one six, reached an end after he mistimed a pull shot off Jhye Richardson to get captured off mid-wicket.

Tim Paine was selected Australia captain after Steve Smith ventured down from the captaincy for his contribution to the ball-tampering scandal.

The 34-year-old has played 26 Tests for his side at the same time, strikingly, has not had the option to score a solitary hundred yet. Tim Paine's captaincy went under scanner after he failed to take a progression of successful DRS in the Ashes 2019 series.

Paine had a disappointing Ashes series that was drawn 2-2. He scored only 180 runs from 10 innings at an average of 20.
