Indian badminton player PV Sindhu has reached the quarter-finals of the All England Open badminton tournament. Sindhu defeated Hyun Sung of Korea 21–19 21–17 in straight games in the second round. The match lasted for 49 minutes. Sindhu has won a match after losing three consecutive matches against Hyun. In the singles, all Indians, except Sindhu, have lost.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Lakshya Sen lost in the second round of the Men's Singles. No. 2 Victor Axelson defeated Lakshya by 21–17, 21–18. In the women's singles, Saina was eliminated in the first round. With the defeat, the road to her Olympic qualification has become difficult. Saina is at number 20 in the rankings. Saina will have to make it to the top-16 by April 28 to achieve the Olympic quota.

Sindhu has been struggling with poor form since winning the Gold at the World Championship last year. She reached the quarterfinals of the French Open in September last year and Indonesia Masters in January this year. Therefore, the All England Badminton Series becomes very important for this star shuttler of India. If she reaches the finals here, then the ticket to Tokyo can be confirmed. Sindhu has said that as a precaution to avoid Coronavirus, she will do Namaste instead of shaking hands in this tournament.
