The District Superintendent of Police, Udaipur, has informed the undersigned that no one can use flags with religious symbols on public properties without permission.

The administration has issued directives declaring that religiously themed flags will not be authorised in public locations during religious processions, and individuals who disobey these regulations will suffer severe legal penalties.

The ruling claimed that displaying these flags in public locations might jeopardise law and order.

Tara Chand Meena, District Magistrate, issued an order 

Tara Chand, district magistrate warned that an attempt is being made to undermine law and order, which has the potential to disrupt public tranquillity and damage law and order as well as social cohesiveness.

"In light of the foregoing, I, Tara Chand Meena, District Magistrate, Udaipur, using the powers conferred by Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, prohibit the use of flags bearing religious symbols on public properties in the entire urban and rural areas of Udaipur district without approval or consent," he continued.

The Magistrate advised the citizens to obey the order and threatened them with legal punishment if they did not.

"I direct all citizens to obey rather than disobey this decree." If a person violates one of the aforementioned prohibitory orders, he may be prosecuted under Section 88 of the Indian Criminal Code. This order will be applicable throughout the whole urban and rural parts of Udaipur district from 05/04/2023 till the following two months.”

Diya Kumari, Princess of Jaipur has a different opinion

Meanwhile, Diya Kumari, a BJP MP from Rajsamand, has called the action an effort to violate religious freedom under the guise of law and order.

"The administration of Udaipur's ban on the religious flag is the latest example of the Congress government's appeasement policy in Rajasthan," she added.

This is an attempt to violate ordinary people's right to religious freedom under the cover of law and order.
