According to Pachpadra police station SHO Rajendra Singh, a Dalit lady who was allegedly raped and set on fire in Rajasthan's Barmer district on Thursday i.e. April 06 died of burn injuries on Saturday i.e. April 08 at Jaipur's Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. 

Shakoor aged 30, the primary accused, has been identified and apprehended, according to authorities. 

He allegedly raped the victim before pouring a chemical on her and setting her on fire. Shakoor, who lives close to the victim's home, has been apprehended, according to Singh. 

FIR was not registered for 24 hours

When the woman began shouting, the accused feared that if she did not remain silent, her secret would be revealed.

For 24 hours, no FIR was filed in the case. People protested, and a complaint was filed.

"The woman was admitted to a hospital and was sent to Jodhpur after 24 hours, where she died due to a lack of treatment. 

A case has been registered with the police under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Opposition parties hit back at Gehlot government

Soon after the incident, there was a political uproar in Rajasthan, with a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) representative criticising the Ashok Gehlot government.

"In the Balotra incident, the victim was hospitalised for 24 hours before the FIR was filed.” "This incident is a blot on the face of the government, "Rajendra Rathore, added. 

Meanwhile, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Sekhawat slammed the government, claiming that women are not protected under Ashok Gehlot's administration.

Kailash Chaudhary, Union Minister and Member of Parliament from Barmer, also paid a visit to the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital and spoke with patients and their families. 

"The relatives  demanded Rs 1 crore in compensation and a government job," he said, adding that "the families' demands should be met, and the family should receive justice."
