ED to Question Sonia Rahul over National Herald case, Congress calls it a ‘political vendetta

Pulkit Sharma

Enforcement Directorate has sent notices to interim and former President of Congress party. As stated by the notice, both the leaders need to appear before the agency on June 8 for questioning.

As known popularly, the National Herald case includes money laundering charges on both the leaders. ED had earlier questioned other senior leaders of the party Pawan Bansal and Mallikarjun Khadke on 12 April. Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi while speaking to the media told, "Soniaji will appear for the probe for sure, however, Rahulji is abroad. If he is back by then, he too would be appearing before the agency on the scheduled date. If not he then would seek some time."

Congress leader Randeep Surjewala who’ll also be representing Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan if elected reacted to the row and claimed it as a political vendetta. Surjewala while reacting over the issue said: “By targeting National Herald every now and then, BJP has disgraced and disrespected the freedom fighters. Surjewala also compared the British Government to that of Modi Government, stating “National Herald newspaper was started in the year 1942, Britishers at that tried to suppress it. Today, the Modi government too is using ED to do the same,"

Randeep Surjewala

Stating the ED action as Political Vendetta, Surjewala added further stating,” money laundering case has been registered when there is no evidence of money laundering. This move seels like a vendetta, pettiness, and fear.”
