Due to the ever-increasing cases of coronavirus, the Election Commission had banned all types of rallies till January 15 and only virtual campaigns were allowed. Under the directions, political parties are prohibited from holding any Padyatra, Cycle Yatra or Roadshows. Its prohibiton is coming to an end today. What is to be decided next, is whether the ban will continue or whether political parties will be allowed to hold rallies and Roadshows now. A decision will be taken in this meeting regarding the ban on campaign rallies for the upcoming elections in five states in the light of the Covid-19 situation.

Samajwadi Party held a rally in Lucknow violating the ban

Violating the ban, the Samajwadi Party gathered and held a rally in Lucknow. Taking action, the Election Commission has registered a case against the leaders for violating the Corona protocol. The commission has sought a reply from the ACP and SDM of the Hazratganj area. The Election Commission has become alert when the crowd gathered during the virtual rally of the Samajwadi Party and might take strict actions. In this case, FIR has been lodged against SP leaders and about two and a half thousand workers. Along with this the inspector has also been suspended in this matter.

“No candidate will be able to take out the victory procession”- EC

Announcing the dates for elections in 5 states on January 8, the Election Commission had said that campaigning should be done digitally, virtually and the use of traditional means of physical campaigning should be minimized. The Commission clearly said that no publicity, public relations, political parties will be able to do any campaigning from 8 o'clock in the night to 8 in the morning. At the same time, after winning the election, no candidate will be able to take out the victory procession and the winning candidate will go to collect the certificate with two only people. Parties will be allowed to hold meetings only at designated places. Maximum of 5 people will be allowed for door to door campaign.
