Pulkit Sharma

BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Friday took a dig at the Central Government’s Agnipath Scheme and raised an all new issue over the row. Gandhi asked why the government is not offering pension the Agniveers.

Taking the matter to his official Twitter account, the MP wrote, "Agniveers, who would serve for a short term, have no right to receive pension, then why the Public Representatives are being given this convenience. If the one who is protecting the is’nt getting the pension then I am ready to my surrender my pension too. Can we MLAs and MPs give up our pensions to make sure that Agneevers would get receive theirs?"

Development so far
The Centre on June 14 brought a new Agnipath Scheme for army recruitment in the armed forces. As per the youngsters aged 17.5 to 21 would be recruited to any of the three divisions of army and would be titled as 'agniveers' for a period of four years. After every four years 75% of Agniveer would be retired and the rest would be selected for permanent cadre. The remaining 75 per cent would be released from his duty and unlike normal army rules until now, they won’t be entitled to any pension now.

No Steeping Back

The new scheme triggered the youth and the nation thus witnessed ample amount of distruction due to the widespread protests across the nation, effecting railways to the most. Army, however, reacting to the row said it won't be stepping back and those who took part in protest won’t be allowed to be a Agniveer.

Not for the first time

It must be noted here that the BJP MP had slammed government for this scheme earlier too and said that the scheme would give rise to disaffection among the youths and thus the government should clear its stand regarding the same.

Varun also questioned government intent to provide job to Agniveers and wrote a letter to Rajnath Singh the Defence Minister of the nation to make a clear stand over the scheme.
