WADA Bans Russia from Olympics for Four Years

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has taken a strong step and decided to impose a four-year ban on Russia over doping charges. Because of this ban, Russia will not be able to participate in the Olympics. The Olympics 2020 is to be held in Tokyo. WADA said that Russia has 21 days to appeal against this decision. Even before this, Russia has been banned for three years from 2015 to 2018. WADA President Craig Reidy said at the Olympic Summit on Saturday that he strongly condemns anyone who is guilty misusing the data from the laboratory of MOSCO. He had said, I agree that it was an attack on the game. A strict decision needs to be taken against those who carry out such work. It has been decided to exclude Russia from all major sporting events for the next four years.

WADA has banned Russia for four years which means it will not be able to participate in the Tokyo Olympics and the Football World Cup 2022 in Qatar. In Switzerland, the WADA Committee unanimously took a decision to ban Russia for the next four years. This decision was taken in January this year due to the anti-doping agency of the Russian Federation misusing the data during the investigation.

WADA said that Russia has 21 days to appeal against this decision. If they do so, then the matter will go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Russia hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics. Not only this, the Football World Cup of 2018 was also played in Russia last year.
