Spain Won Sixth Davis Cup Title

Veteran Rafael Nadal ended his illustrious season by Defeating Denis Shaplov here on Sunday to Win Spain over Canada to clinch the sixth Davis title. Nadal beat Shaplov 6–3, 7–6 to give Spain a 2–0 winning lead.

Earlier, World number-9 Roberto Bautista Agut defeated Fexis Aguar Aliasime 7-6 (3), 6-3 to clear the path of victory for Spain. The ATP website quoted Nadal as saying, "It has been a wonderful week. To be honest, I could not be happier with this. Ending up like this in this stadium is an unheard-of thing."

Nadal ended the year as the world's number one player after winning the French and US Open titles in 2019. This is Nadal's fourth Davis Cup final win by 19 Grand Slam titles, one more than Roger Federer. The Spanish team also received a cheque of $ 2.1 million from this win. Earlier, Spain stepped into the Davis Cup final in 2012. The Czech Republic then did not let Spain win. Canada was looking for its first title.
