In this match, Serena won the hearts of the audience with her brilliant game.

Serena defeated Pegula 6-3, 6-4 to win the first WTA Trophy since the last title she achieved at the Australian Open in Melbourne in 2017 and this is her first title since becoming a mother. Serena also made it to the doubles final with Caroline Wozniacki, but suffered a 4-6, 4-6 loss to America's Asia Muhammad and Taylor Townsend.

After winning this title, Serena received a cheque for prize money of US $ 43000 (approx. 31 lakh rupees), which she decided to donate to help the people affected by the fire in the forests of Australia. In addition to donating the prize money, Serena decided to auction her autographed jersey worn in the first round in Auckland for the purpose of raising money for the victims.
