North Korea: Nuclear Program Resumes, Kim Jong Un Reprocessing Plutonium

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has once again started to advance his nuclear program. North Korea, which has nuclear weapons, is reprocessing plutonium in its reactor. It is used to make nuclear weapons. The United Nations (UN) nuclear agency has expressed concern over this move of North Korea.

Plutonium is being reprocessed at the Yongbyon plant in North Korea. Here is Korea's largest 5 MW nuclear reactor. The reactor had been closed since December 2018.

Trump and Kim's talks were inconclusive

No agreement has yet been reached on a nuclear deal between the US and North Korea. The issue of the nuclear programs was discussed between North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un and then US President Donald Trump. Kim promised Donald Trump to end Yongbyon's nuclear project, but he did not talk about another project. Trump rejected his offer.

International sanctions imposed on North Korea several times

North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile program has grown rapidly under the leadership of Kim Jong Un. Due to this, international sanctions have been imposed on this country many times. The International Atomic Energy Agency of the UN has said that since the beginning of July, signals started coming from North Korea. A large amount of cold water was being discharged from there. This meant that the reactor had started functioning.

IAEA team was expelled from the country in 2019

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which monitors nuclear stations around the world, was expelled from the country by North Korea in 2019. Since then, the agency monitors these locations from outside sources. The report also said that talks should be started immediately to stop North Korea's nuclear program.
