China Adopts ‘Aggressive’ Foreign Policy Towards India Led by Xi Jinping: US Report

A commission appointed by the US Congress said in its report that China, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, has adopted an aggressive foreign policy towards India and stopped efforts to clear the Line of Actual Control, which has hindered peace. There has been a standoff between Indian and Chinese forces at several places in eastern Ladakh for the past seven weeks and tensions have escalated after 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in a violent clash in the Galvan Valley on 15 June.

The report released by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission stated, "Beijing has taken an aggressive foreign policy stance towards New Delhi under the leadership of Communist Party of China (CCP) Secretary-General Xi Jinping. Since 2013, there have been five major confrontations with India on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) of China.

"Beijing and New Delhi made several agreements to stabilize their borders and took steps to build mutual trust, but China stopped efforts to clarify the LAC, which hindered peace," the report said. In this report by Will Green, policy analyst for the security and foreign affairs team in the commission, it has been said that the Chinese government is scared about India's strengthening relations with the US and its allies."
