Auckland Classic Tournament: Top-Seeded Serena Williams Reaches Final

On Saturday, Grand Slam Champion Serena Williams reached the final of the Auckland Classic tournament. She defeated 18-year-old Amanda Anisimova in straight sets 6–1, 6–1 in the semi-finals. Serena, who won 23 Grand Slams, defeated Amanda in just 45 minutes. She will now face Jessica Pegula on Sunday in the final. Wiliams defeated Germany's Laura Siegemund in the quarter-finals. Williams won the match 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and 30 minutes.

Serena said after reaching the final, "Today I was playing in my zone." I knew that I faced a good player. That's why I came to court with full courage. Ennismova said before the semi-finals, 'It was my biggest dream to come to court against Serena.'

Earlier, Serena reached the doubles final with Caroline Wozniacki. On Friday, the pair defeated Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens-Alison van 7-6 (11-9), 6-2. However, Wozniacki was disappointed in the women's singles. She was defeated by Jessica Pegula 3-6 4-6 0-6 in the semi-finals. The Czech Republic player is retiring after the Australian Open.
