Delhi Pollution: A public interest litigation (PLI) has been filed in the Supreme Court on Friday regarding the increasing pollution in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

In this petition, demand has been made to issue new guidelines on stubble burning to stop the increasing air pollution.

The Supreme Court will hear the petition of advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha on November 10.

A bench of Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi took cognizance of the plea of ​​advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha.

Advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha, in his personal capacity, filed a PIL saying that the situation of air pollution has worsened due to stubble burning in the adjoining areas of Delhi.

He said that even common people cannot walk in such conditions and the level of Air Quality Index (AQI) has increased due to stubble burning. The Chief Justice said that it should be listed on November 10.

An AQI between zero-50 is considered 'good', 51-100 'satisfactory', 101-200 'moderate', 201-300 'poor', and 301-400 'very poor', and between 401-500 is considered in the 'severe' range.

The petition has also sought directions for the functioning of schools, colleges and government and private offices through a digital medium.

The lawyer alleged that the problem of pollution arises every year and there is a serious threat to life and liberty due to smog in Delhi-NCR.

The petition states that the matter is of grave concern, and requires the immediate intervention of the court.

The petition has sought the setting up of a high-level committee, headed by a retired Supreme Court judge, to deal with the air pollution crisis caused by stubble burning.
