H3N2 Virus Outbreak: As the country continues to recover from the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak, a new virus, named H3N2, has emerged and is rapidly spreading.

In the past few weeks, several cases of this virus have been reported across many states.

In response, state governments are taking necessary precautions to prevent its spread, such as ordering the establishment of isolation wards in hospitals.

H3N2 virus outbreak leads to school closure in Puducherry

In response to the rising number of H3N2 virus and flu cases, Puducherry's Education Minister Namassivayam has declared the closure of schools.

The schools in Puducherry will be closed from March 16 to March 26, but only for students in classes 1 to 8. The rest of the classes will continue as scheduled.

Hospitals and primary health centres on alert mode

According to health department officials, Puducherry has recorded 79 cases of H3N2 influenza till March 4, however, no fatalities have been reported in the region so far.

The Health Department has issued an alert to hospitals and primary health centers to monitor the growing number of cases.

To prevent the H3N2 virus, it is advised to wear masks, maintain social distancing, and follow all other precautions that were implemented during the Corona epidemic as this virus is particularly effective on children and the elderly.

The virus tends to become more active with changes in weather conditions, and is spreading rapidly. Fortunately, around 95% of the cases are not severe and do not pose a risk of death.

However, if one experiences any symptoms, it is recommended to consult a doctor for medical advice.
