Ayushi Sharma

World Polio Day is celebrated every year on 24 October worldwide and its purpose is to create awareness among the people to help eradicate polio. In 2014, WHO had declared India polio-free and at present 87 percent of the country's area has been included in 100 percent polio-free zone. 25 years of successful Pulse Polio campaign have been completed in the country.

Despite India being polio-free, it is very important to keep some things in mind to protect your child from this virus. The most important thing that everyone needs to know is that there is no cure for this disease, it can only be prevented from happening and the polio oral vaccine is given to children only to prevent it from happening. Polio is a highly contagious disease caused by the polio virus, and the virus directly affects the central nervous system, leading to shortness of breath, paralysis and even death.

Polio virus can make a person a victim at any age. However, children up to 5 years old are most at risk of it. The WHO has declared polio-free in the US, Europe, Western Pacific Asia and South East Asia. At the same time, outbreak of this disease is still continuing in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria.

If you want to protect your child from polio, then get him an oral dose of polio or vaccination. This facility is available in almost every hospital. At the same time, from time to time, the campaign of polio drop is run in which employees go from house to house and give polio drops to children.
