Men are Also Prone To Breast Cancer

There is a general perception about breast cancer that this cancer occurs in women. This is why men are not included in testing for new breast cancer drugs. This is not right.

Some men are also prone to breast cancer. However, their number remains less than one percent. Keeping these in mind, there has been a long demand in the medical world to include men in drug testing. Now the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of America has issued a directive for researchers in this regard.

Dr. Sheeran Giardano of the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, said, "It is very disappointing to see such a patient in front of us, who has to tell us whether the drug will affect it or not." The drug has been tested only on women. There is no scientific evidence of impact on men. "He said that even though very few men would be involved during the test, it would be possible to collect at least some data on the basis of them. Currently, such men are deprived of usual care and life-saving drugs.

A study was published in 2017 about breast cancer in men. This included 1,500 men suffering from breast cancer in Canada, the US and European countries. It was found that the treatment of breast cancer of most men was possible with anti-estrogen therapy but about a quarter of the patients were denied this treatment. Researchers said rare disease patients often receive less care. Breast cancer is also a rare disease for men.

Lack of awareness is the biggest problem. Men with breast cancer often realize the disease after the last stage. The main reason for this is that they have no idea that this disease can happen in men. Dr. Fatima Kadreso said that there is a need to spread awareness among men that they too can get breast cancer. They should also be checked periodically. Currently, physicians and researchers have welcomed the FDA directive to include men in drug testing.

Treatment is possible in the first and second phase

Uncontrolled growth of cells in any part of the body can cause cancer. If breast cancer is detected in the first or second phase, then its treatment is possible. But knowing about this also depends on the awareness of the victim. If that level is aware of cancer, then its symptoms can be identified and treated in the right time
