Indo-Nepal Border is Praising PM Narendra Modi and Indian Officials

Nidhi Hakla

Nepalese people stranded on the Indo-Nepal border in the lockdown caused by Coronavirus are praising PM Narendra Modi and Indian officials with free speech.  Nepal had barred its citizens from entering Nepal due to the Indo-Nepal border being sealed.  After this, Indian officials made arrangements for their stay and food.

After the Indo-Nepal border was sealed, hundreds of Nepalese people gathered on the Indo-Nepal border to visit their homeland late on Monday. Nepali citizens were made to stand in a physical distancing queue.  High officials asked measures to prevent virus infection and asked for efficient measures, leading Nepali citizens to greet PM Modi and officials with loud applause.

Nepali citizens said that despite the lockdown, we were happy to return to our homeland Nepal, but have been staying in Sonauli town on the Indo-Nepal border for four days.  We were not allowed to cross the border, Where the people of Sonauli provided food and water and the Indian authorities have made arrangements to stay and eat, which is a great compliment.  Manoj, a resident of Mangalapur, Nepal, 15 km from the Indo-Nepal border, is staying at Nautanwa Inter College with his wife Lakshmi, two children aged three-four years and a 15-day-old newborn.  They did not get entry into Nepal.  The woman of the family was given the necessary items.  Raju Kumar Sau has said that separate arrangements have been made for that family.

As the tension increased, the Nepali Prahari Dal (Nepali Police) took lathi-charged.  After this Nepali citizens sat on a protest on No Mans Land.  Even on the persuasion of Indian and Nepalese officials, Nepalese citizens did not listen and sat on a protest on No Man's Land for 24 hours.  The officials then arranged for these people to stay and eat at various places.  They will be sent to their country after lockdown.  Nepal has made similar arrangements for Indian officials across the border.
