The interim president of the Congress, Sonia Gandhi, arrived in Tihar Jail on Wednesday to meet the Karnataka Congress stalwart and former minister DK Shivakumar. Sonia reached Tihar at around nine in the morning. The two leaders met for about half an hour. A source said that Sonia went to know the well being of senior Congress leader Shivkumar of Karnataka as well as to show solidarity towards him. Shivkumar is currently lodged in Tihar Jail under the Enforcement Directorate (ED) judicial custody in the Money laundering case.

Significantly, Shivkumar, arrested on charges of money laundering case, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) a few weeks ago and he is currently lodged in Tihar Jail. Sonia also met senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram arrested in INX Media case after reaching Tihar.

Shivkumar's bail plea may be decided today

On the other hand, DK Shivakumar's bail plea can be pronounced on Wednesday. On October 17, Justice Suresh Kait reserved his decision on his bail plea. The petition claimed that the case was a result of political rivalry and there is not enough evidence against him. The ED opposed his bail plea, stating that he was an influential person and if released, he could tamper with the evidence and influence the witnesses.
