SC to Hear the Plea Filed by 21 Opposition Leaders on Matching VVPAT

The Supreme Court agreed to hear a reconsideration petition filed by 21 opposition leaders on Friday next week, which demanded a further increase with EVM in the forthcoming general election of VVPAT Parchies in Random Milan.

The apex court had directed the Election Commission on 8th April to increase random matching of VVPAT slots with EVMs in five booths per assembly constituency from one booth. Opposition leaders led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu demanded a review of the order of the apex court saying, "The increase from 1 to 5 is not a proper number and there is no satisfaction satisfied by this court".

The petition for immediate hearing was mentioned before a bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Deepak Gupta. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the petitioners, told the bench that the review petition is listed for hearing next week. Peeth agreed to Singhvi and said that the hearing of this case will be held next week.
