No Proposal to Host Shooting Championship during CWG 2020

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) issued a big statement on Monday raising the concern of many countries. The CGF said it had no plans to hold a Commonwealth Shooting Championship in India during the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham in 2022. Shooting has been excluded from this event in these games. The CGF said that when the Federation's head Louis Martin and CEO David Gravemberg met top officials of the ISSF in Munich, no formal proposal was presented. There were reports in the media that during the Games to be held in Birmingham the Shooting Championship could be held in India and the medals coming in it would be added to the medals of the countries participating in the Commonwealth Games.

CEO David Gravemberg said, "The Commonwealth Shooting Championship was one of the plans that was discussed with the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF), but no formal proposal was presented. Let our partners agree before this issue". In such a situation, it is too early to say anything about the speculation being made in the media about medals.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had threatened to withdraw from the Games in protest against the removal of shooting from the Commonwealth Games. IOA proposed that by organizing the shooting championship, its medals should be added to the account of the country concerned. IOA President Narendra Batra had said that if the medals were not added to the country's account, India would not participate in the Commonwealth Shooting Championship.
