The administration said in a statement that 1165 out of 1666 chemist shops are open.

"There are 7630 retail chemist shops and 4331 wholesale shops in the Kashmir Valley. On average, 65 percent are open," it said.

The administration said that Medicines worth Rs 23.81 crore have reached the end-user retail outlets in the last 20 days which is slightly higher than the monthly average.

"All 376 notified drugs are also available at government stores and private retailers. There are 62 essential/life-saving medicines available," saying both stocks are in stock for 15-20 days.

The average delivery time from placing orders is 14-18 hours from Jammu and most of the distributors are from Jammu.

The administration recognized that there was a shortage of infant food in the valley for about two days. However, it stated that fresh stocks had been received and this is sufficient for a minimum of three weeks.

It added that three people have been deployed in Jammu and Chandigarh for the quick dispatch of medicines and baby food and there has been no overcrowding in 72 test-checked cases.
