Six bullet-resistant vehicles (BRVs) will soon be deployed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Equipped with state-of-the-art weapons, these vehicles are currently being subjected to ballistic training in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

A statement issued by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) claimed that Delhi airport will become the first in the country to have BRVs. These vehicles will then be deployed at airports in Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Mumbai among others in the months to come added the statement. The deployment of these vehicles has been done to minimize the damage of a potential terrorist attack.

With respect to the induction of BRVs, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) is also in the process of finalizing specification for airports that fall under their ambit. An official with the CISF which is currently in charge of 61 out of the 100 airports in India, told the national daily that "lone wolf attack is now the latest trend". He added that a BRV will allow security personnel to neutralize the attacker without exposing themselves to danger.

A notification was issued in this regard by the Bureau for Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) in August of 2017 directing airport authorities in India to replace Quick Reaction Team (QRT) vehicles with BRVs. Other vehicles which are a part of the CISF's fleet include Bolero, Gypsy, Sedan, and Scorpio. These vehicles are used by almost 4,500 personnel deployed at the IGI airport to not only patrol outside and inside the airport premises but also around its periphery.
