Sardar Singh might Appointed as Coach of Junior Men’s Hockey Team

Akash Singh

Former Indian Hockey captain Sardar Singh can become the coach of the men's Junior hockey team. According to sources close to Hockey India, there has been a talk between Sardar Singh and top officials in this regard. If all goes well, Sardar Singh is expected to assume responsibility from new year. The former Olympian also has plans to soon do masters in hockey as a coach. Hockey India removed Jude Felix as coach in June due to the team's poor performance. The post has been lying vacant since then. Sardar is the best option right now because of Harendra Singh's demand for equal pay for Indian coaches.

The responsibility of the team is currently being handled by BJ Cariappa but it is not permanent. Sardar may not have much coaching experience right now, but no one can question his understanding of today's modern hockey. He has represented and captained most of India in every major international tournament like Olympics, World Cup, Asian Games, Champions Trophy and Asia Cup for almost a decade and a half before saying goodbye to hockey.
