Rajya Sabha

On Thursday, Congress MPs started shouting slogans when Ranjan Gogoi was taking oath in the Rajya Sabha. Opposition parties, led by the Congress, raised slogans of Shame-Shame during this period and in doing so walked out of the House.

The Congress party has raised questions over the nomination of former CJI Ranjan Gogoi. Rajya Sabha MP Anand Sharma says that we have objections because he was a controversial Chief Justice. His appointment has raised the issue of Quid Pro Quo. This weakens the independence of the judiciary. The Congress leader said that he has recently retired and has given controversial decisions.
