Efforts are Going On to Bring Back Indians from Iran: S Jaishankar

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said on Sunday that efforts are underway to bring back Indians stranded in the city of Qom, Iran. Talks are on with the Iranian authorities. He also said that no cases of coronavirus have been reported among Indian fishermen trapped in Iran. Tagging NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Shashi Tharoor, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar tweeted that efforts were underway to return Indian pilgrims from Iran.

A team of Indian Doctors has started screening them there and negotiations are going on with the Iranian authorities for the preparations thereafter. It is in the highest priority and Indian Embassy staff are in constant contact with Iranian officials. About 40 Indians are stranded in the city of Kom. Indian physicians have also established a clinic there. NCP chief Sharad Pawar had tweeted and said that he has conveyed his concern about the Indians trapped in Qom town. People there are distressed and in dire need of other help including medical. Kerala Chief Minister P. Vijayan, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K.J.

Iranian officials are keeping an eye on the fishermen and they are being provided all the help. At the same time, the Iranian embassy has also assured that the Indian citizens who do not have symptoms of coronavirus will be sent to India. But those infected with the virus will be kept in special medical centers prepared by the Ministry of Health in Iran itself. Significantly, outside China, Iran is the second most affected country by the Coronavirus. Nearly two hundred people have died of corona in Iran and more than six thousand people have been found infected. Corona has spread in all 31 provinces of Iran.
