Apart from this, the Congress has called a meeting of opposition parties on 13 January in the Parliament Annexe to discuss the emerging situation and incident of violence against students.

Opposition parties are meeting for a joint strategy on anti-CAA protests and the issue of alleged police brutality against students. The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will likely discuss the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and protest against it. The party has already supported the protests and has shown solidarity with the demonstrations, which are being carried out by student bodies.

Sources say that the Congress will come up with a detailed plan on the issue and a statement about the ongoing unrest in the country and the high office of the government. Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has already condemned the violence and sent a fact finding team to JNU. Sonia Gandhi, in her statement, demanded a judicial inquiry into the JNU violence on Sunday (5 January). He said that the entire party stands in solidarity with the students.

The Congress has called a meeting of the Party Working Committee on Friday to discuss the Citizenship Amendment Act and the nationwide agitation against NRC, along with the violence against students in JNU. In this meeting, the party will decide its counter-political strategy by brainstorming not only the protests of the CAA-NRC but also the efforts of the government to suppress the voice of the students.
