Scientists have detected the corona virus on air pollution particles.  Scientists are trying to find out if it can be able to go a long distance through air pollution and increase the number of people infected.  The research is still at an early stage.  It is not yet known whether the virus can live on such a quantity of pollution particles to cause disease.

Leonardo Setty of the University of Bologna, Italy, who led the research, said that it is important to investigate whether the virus can be transported more widely by air pollution.  He said, When I don't know, I get worried.  If I know, I can find a solution.  But if anyone does not know, only one in particular has to bear the consequences.  Two other research groups have suggested that air pollution particles may help coronavirus move further into the air.

A statistical analysis by Setty's team suggests that higher pollution in parts of northern Italy may explain higher rates of infection before the lockdown was implemented.  The region is one of the most polluted regions in Europe.  None of the studies conducted by Setty's team have been reviewed.  Therefore it has not been supported by independent scientists.  But experts believe that their research is praiseworthy and needs investigation.

Italian scientists used standard techniques to collect samples of outdoor air pollution at an urban and an industrial site in Bergamo province.  Identified specific genes of covid-19 in several samples.  This identification was confirmed by testing in an independent laboratory.
