The Central Government is formulating a policy for the permanent solution to the problem of stubble burning in other states including Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. A committee of experts from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has been formed in this regard. Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Purushottam Rupala said in the Rajya Sabha on Friday during Question Hour that a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Secretary of ICAR. A committee has been formed for the new policy. This committee will submit its report in a month or two.

Rupala said that there is currently no plan to compensate for the loss in lieu of preventing burning of stubble. He said that farmers of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh burn the stubble to clear the field before sowing the next crop. The government plans to train them about the diversity of crops. Rupala said that the government has given machines worth Rs 1,151 crore to farmers for stubble management. 55,000 machines have been given to farmers from three states. Apart from this, they are also being made aware.

Giving information about the reduced production capacity of the soil by burning the straw, Rupala said, 'It is estimated that about 5.5 kg of nitrogen, 2.3 kg of phosphorus pentoxide, 25 kg of potassium oxide, 1.2 kg of sulfur, 50 in a ton of paddy straw Contains 70 percent micronutrients and 400 kg of carbon. These elements are destroyed due to burning of stubble. Also, the production capacity of the soil is also affected due to soil temperature, pH, moisture etc.
