Rajinikanth Warns of Opening Liquor Shops, AIADMK will Loose in Assembly Elections Next Year

Nidhi Hakla

Superstar Rajinikanth has warned the ruling AIADMK against the reopening of liquor shops in Tamil Nadu, saying that if this happens, the party should not "dream" of winning the next year's assembly elections and return to power. He also asked the government to work on alternative means of revenue generation by tweeting.

The Madras High Court had directed the closure of liquor shops in the state against which the Tamil Nadu government approached the Supreme Court. After this Rajinikanth made this comment.

The veteran actor said in a tweet that if the government opens TASMAC shops at this point then AIADMK should not dream of coming back to power. He wrote, "Please find better ways to fill the fund."

The Madras High Court had directed the closure of liquor shops under TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation) in the state on the grounds of violation of Covid-19 guidelines. The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday reached the Supreme Court to challenge the order of the High Court, arguing for serious losses in revenue and commercial activities.

The Madras High Court on Friday ordered the closure of liquor shops in the state due to heavy crowd and violation of social distance.
